Where to stay at Chobe

There are four basic choices. You can stay in Kasane, on the Chobe River with hotels, guesthouses and campsites. You can camp on the Riverfront at Ihaha. You can go inland to Savuti and Linyanti, which are separate sites in marsh country. Or you can sleep on a houseboat on the Namibian side of the river.

Not every property sold as a Chobe lodge is inside the national park. Check the location on the map before you book, because it decides your drive to the gate. If you plan boat trips, a base in or near Kasane is the easy option, and a Chobe river cruise starts only minutes away.

Chobe lodge rates: one example

Lodge prices differ widely, so no single range fits Chobe. Lodges near Savuti start from around $655 per person per night when two share (2025/26 season example). The rate covers meals, activities, selected drinks and the park fees of the camp. Gate fees for self-drive guests are an extra.

In this example children are accepted from the age of 2. Ages 2 to 11 pay 50 percent and from 12 the full adult rate applies. A lodge sets its own child rules, and they differ from the park's rules on children. Read the terms of each property.

Camping at Chobe

Pitches in the park need advance planning.

Reserve in advance

Campsite operators take written or online reservations. Do not count on choosing a pitch when you arrive.

Two sets of charges

The park's own camping fee is 60 BWP per person per day for non-residents, or 250 BWP per night for a wilderness campsite. The DWNP line is not the full price of a privately run campsite, so confirm the operator's rate and any levies.

Houseboats on the Chobe

A houseboat is a different kind of trip from a day boat out of Kasane. A Chobe houseboat lies on the Namibian side of the river. A private charter is for at least 3 nights and up to 8 guests, with the price on request.

A stay on the Namibian side includes immigration steps. Immigration is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the latest recommended arrival is 4 p.m. To join a game drive in the Botswana park you enter and leave again. Visitors from many countries, including Germany, have needed a visa for Namibia since 1 April 2025, and a stay in Botswana does not cover it. Check the rules for your passport.
