Chobe park fees at a glance
Chobe National Park charges its entry fees per person and per day, plus a separate fee for each vehicle. The rates below are the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (DWNP) tariff for Category A parks, which include Chobe and Moremi. The tariff has been in force since 1 April 2022. An increase was announced in 2026; check the current rate before you go. All amounts are in Botswana pula (BWP).
If you join a Chobe safari or a boat trip, check whether the park fee is included in the price. Many tours list it as an extra, and the amount depends on your residency status.

Entry fees for people and camping
BWP per person and per day, unless stated otherwise. Rates as of 2026.
| Position | Citizens | Residents / SADC nationals | Non-residents |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private visitors, per person per day | 30 BWP | 205 BWP | 270 BWP |
| Clients of Botswana tour operators, per person per day | 20 BWP | 145 BWP | 190 BWP |
| DWNP camping, per person per day | 20 BWP | 45 BWP | 60 BWP |
| Wilderness campsite, per person per night | 75 BWP | 190 BWP | 250 BWP |
For most overseas visitors, the last column is the one that counts. If you book a tour with a Botswana operator, the lower client rate applies, so the same day in the park costs 80 BWP less per person than a private visit.
Vehicle and boat fees
Chobe column of the tariff, per vehicle per day.
| Vehicle | Registered in Botswana | Registered abroad |
|---|---|---|
| Private vehicle under 3,500 kg | 30 BWP | 115 BWP |
| Commercial vehicle under 3,500 kg | 40 BWP | 250 BWP |
| Caravan or trailer | 15 BWP | 60 BWP |
| Vehicle of 3,500 to 7,000 kg | 500 BWP | 1,000 BWP |
| Vehicle over 7,000 kg | 800 BWP | 1,500 BWP |
| Motor boat, per day | 30 BWP | โ |
| Motor boat, per year | 3,000 BWP | โ |
The dash for foreign boats is neither free entry nor a permit. The visitor fee, the boat fee and the price of a boat trip are three different items. A self-drive visitor from abroad in a private car pays the person fee for each passenger plus 115 BWP for the vehicle, per day. If you hire a car in Kasane, ask the rental company what applies to the registration of that car. See our notes on renting a car and driving to Chobe.
How to pay at Chobe
Bring Botswana pula in cash for the gate, especially at Sedudu. Some offices take cash or card, but there is no guarantee that a card machine works at every gate, so do not rely on it.
A state online booking and payment system for parks is not something to count on in 2026. Plan to pay on the ground unless your tour or lodge handles the fee for you. Online booking through a tour company is a service of that company and does not replace the park fee unless the tour says the fee is included.
