How Chobe tours differ
Chobe tours start in two places: Kasane in Botswana and Livingstone in Zambia. From Kasane, morning and afternoon game drives and boat cruises can be booked on their own or combined into one day. From Livingstone, the usual product is a full-day trip that crosses the border. Check three things for each tour: what the price covers, whether park fees are included and where the tour starts.
The examples below are single offers as of 2026, not a market range, and a price example does not show free seats on your day. This page covers Chobe only. For Moremi, Makgadikgadi or other parks, see the short sections on the Okavango page.

Chobe tours compared
Examples as of 2026. Each row is one offer.
| Tour | Starts in | Length | Price example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Guided morning game drive | Kasane | About 3 hours, 06:00 to 09:00 | BWP 308 to 371 per person |
| Boat cruise | Kasane | 3 hours | From $37 per person, minimum group of 4 |
| Drive and boat in one day | Kasane | Full day | BWP 1,150 to 2,760 per person, park fees excluded |
| Day trip with border crossing | Victoria Falls or Livingstone | About 07:00 to 18:00 | $229 per person, minimum 2, park and visa fees extra |
| Lodge stay inland | Savute area | Per night | From $655 per person and night, sharing |
| Chobe, Delta and Kalahari photo programme | Multi-stop | 10 days | Price on request |
For most visitors with 2 days in Kasane, a morning drive plus an afternoon boat cruise gives a good look at the Chobe Riverfront. If you are based in Victoria Falls or Livingstone, the day trip is the realistic way in. A lodge stay inland suits you only if you want Savute and are happy to travel for hours on sand.
Botswana safari tours: where Chobe fits
One stop on a longer route.
Botswana safari tours often link Chobe with the Okavango Delta. The distance from Kasane to Maun is about 600 km, which is roughly 7 hours by road. Flights serve Kasane, Maun and Gaborone, so the leg between Chobe and the Delta can be flown as well. Flights depend on the schedule, so check the days before you plan around one.
A 10-day photographic programme links Chobe, the Delta and the Kalahari. That shows a specific combination exists, not that 10 days is typical for a Botswana safari. The Okavango Delta from Chobe page explains the roads, flights and mokoro trips, and the photographic safari page covers photo boats.
Botswana safari price: what to compare
The same word, different products.
Park fees
Under the tariff valid since April 2022, a customer of a Botswana tour operator pays BWP 190 per person and day, and a private non-resident visitor BWP 270. Some tours exclude park fees, and some include them. Read that line first.
Park fees โGroup size
Several Chobe tours need a minimum group, for example 4 guests for a boat cruise or a combined day, and 2 for the Victoria Falls day trip. A solo traveller may pay more or need to join a group.
Safari lodge price
Inland lodges start from around $655 per person and night when two people share (2025/26 season example). Meals, activities, selected drinks and camp park fees are included, and self-drive gate fees are not. Treat it as a single example, not a range for Chobe.
Children
Lodge and park rules for children differ. A lodge example takes children from 2 years, with 50 percent for ages 2 to 11 and the full adult rate from 12. The park tariff has its own age rules, so confirm them for your trip.
What to check before you book
Details that decide the day.
Start point and pickup
A Kasane tour and a Livingstone tour are not the same product. Check where the pickup is and which border crossing the day involves.
Day trip โWhat is on the programme
The order of boat and game drive can differ, and a day trip does not reach the inland areas. No tour guarantees sightings.
Season
The dry winter months bring large herds to the river. The rainy season runs from November to March. See the season page.
Where you sleep
Kasane has hotels, guest houses and camping, and inland camps are far from town. The where to stay page explains the areas.
Botswana safari tours: frequently asked questions
Which Chobe tour should I choose?
That depends on your base and your time. From Kasane, a morning drive and an afternoon cruise cover the riverfront well. From Victoria Falls or Livingstone, the full-day trip is the usual choice. The table above compares single examples, not a ranking.
How much does a Botswana safari cost?
It ranges widely. The 2026 examples here run from about BWP 308 to 371 per person for a 3-hour drive to $655 per person and night for an inland lodge stay. Park fees and group rules change the final price.
Can I book a Chobe tour from Livingstone?
Yes. Operators offer full-day trips from Livingstone over the Kazungula Bridge. Pickup is in the morning, and the return follows in the evening.
Do I need to book in advance?
A price example does not show free seats on your day, so check availability before you plan around it. Group minimums can affect whether a tour runs.
Can I combine Chobe with the Okavango Delta?
Yes. The road from Kasane to Maun is about 600 km, and flights serve Kasane and Maun. Read the Okavango page for the options.
What does a Chobe tour price cover?
It differs by tour. Check what the price covers, whether park fees are included and where the tour starts.
